I’ve just returned from an unforgettable four-night tailor-made rail adventure through Switzerland. It was such a wonderful way to mark this special milestone, combining some of Switzerland’s most beautiful scenery with memorable experiences and plenty of time to simply enjoy the journey.
We began our adventure in Zurich before travelling onwards to the charming alpine village of Kandersteg. Surrounded by spectacular mountains, Kandersteg was the perfect introduction to the Swiss Alps. One of the highlights was visiting Lake Oeschinen, with its incredibly clear turquoise waters, dramatic mountain scenery and peaceful surroundings. It was every bit as beautiful as we had imagined and a real highlight of the trip.
From Kandersteg, we travelled on to Brig before boarding the famous Glacier Express, one of Switzerland’s most iconic rail journeys. The journey to St. Moritz was truly spectacular, taking us through dramatic mountain landscapes, deep gorges, picturesque villages and some of the most breathtaking scenery we saw throughout the trip. Sitting back and watching the landscape change as we travelled through the Alps made the journey just as enjoyable as the destinations themselves.
Trips like this are a wonderful reminder of just how easy and enjoyable it is to explore Switzerland by train. The country’s excellent rail network allows you to combine different destinations without the stress of driving, while experiencing incredible scenery along the way. From beautiful lakes and traditional alpine villages to panoramic train journeys and elegant resorts, there is so much variety to discover.
Most importantly, this trip gave us the chance to create some really special memories together. It was the perfect combination of beautiful scenery, incredible rail journeys and unforgettable experiences, and certainly a trip we’ll remember for a long time.
